E.R.A.S.E. Race is a nonprofit organization traveling across the United States spreading a message of unity. Dubbed "The American Unity Movement" with a slogan "Unity through service and love for all mankind" the organization aims to eliminate race altogether.
Executive Director, Carlen Charleston, left behind a career with the marines and a career teaching high school to begin this organization and is set to visit 100 cities by December. Eventually he will have visited 48 out of the 50 states.
The movement is a two-part mission. The first part consists of education, informing people that scientifically and biologically there is only one race: the human race. The second part claims that the group, and people, must be intentional about their integration.
"Well the long term vision would definitely be that there is more unity at the end of the day," Charleston said. "And that's a hard one to judge but we think that we'll be able to judge that when we see people beginning to be more cooperative."
Carlen says the organization longs for the day when this country no longer has "black" or "white" communities. More information can be found at the organization's website.
