Repair work closes section of major Grand Island street
The City of Grand Island Public Works Wastewater Division is taking proactive measures in identifying and prioritizing portions of the collection system that are in urgent need of repair and replacement. The city will employ both trenchless rehabilitation methods and open-cut point repairs to the areas in most need.
The city is working with Diamond Engineering Company and Alfred Benesch & Company on various open-cut point repairs. The first phase of South Locust Street work which has been completed replaced a deteriorated manhole on Phoenix Avenue just west of South Locust Street.
Beginning Monday, Nov. 6, Diamond Engineering will proceed with the second phase of open-cut repair work on South Locust Street.
The closure on South Locust Street will be between Anna Street and West Phoenix Avenue. Only the one outside northbound lane will remain open.
Drivers headed south will be detoured west on Anna Street, south on Eddy Street, east on South Street, and back onto South Locust Street.
The detour is scheduled to last a maximum of 45 calendar days.
