Ride and Raise fundraiser kicks off YMCA annual campaign

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Some people are not letting the flooding get them down. Several people laced up their gym shoes and headed to the Grand Island YMCA to take part in their annual Ride and Rise campaign.

The fundraiser offers several classes all day and night starting on Friday to get community members up and moving. Some even attended multiple classes late into the night.

“When it's all said and done, all this money raised in the annual campaign is to go to families that are less fortunate so we can offer them scholarships so they can participate in childcare events, aquatics, and otherwise wouldn't be able to join our gym if not for the annual campaign,” Grand Island YMCA CEO Charles Hansen said.

They hope to reach their goal of $50,000 to put towards scholarships.

“Obviously, health and fitness is super important to us and super important to the community,” Hansen said. “The Y is the backbone of the community and helping those less fortunate than us so we want to offer to those who normally wouldn't be able to use our facility to take advantage of our program.”
