Salvation Army's "Kettle Kick-off Winter Carnival" warms the hearts of many
Ringing in the giving season, the Salvation Army had their Kettle Kick-off Winter Carnival Friday night.
Their big event, "Toy Town," where families come and pick out toys for their kids and get all of the items to make a holiday meal is taking place on December 18th. Families must be registered by Thursday, December 12th.
The Salvation Army's biggest and most generous event of them all raises money for their Christmas Toy Town.
"They're just so appreciative and happy. We like to think that some of the people we are giving to, we are helping them make it a little nicer Christmas. Sometimes, what we are giving is all that the kids are getting," said Major Dale Brandenburg, Salvation Army.
The winter carnival coincides with the Salvation Army's national "I'll Fight" campaign.
"Nationwide people are just doing nice things. Here our young kids decided to give out hot chocolate at tonight's event," said Major Sandra Brandenburg.
And well it wouldn't be a winter carnival with out freshly grilled burgers, Christmas music and Santa. He made a personal stop to visit with kids at the Peck House, taking photos and checking to make sure everyone was on his nice list.
"Toy Town" takes place Wednesday, December 18. Parents can get more information on registering at the Salvation Army's Facebook page or by calling (402) 463-0529.
