Salvation Army extends deadline for presents, food
With the number of people signing up down slightly from past years, the Hastings Salvation Army has decided to extend the deadline for families to sign up for assistance with Christmas toys and meals.
The deadline will now be Thursday, December 12, according to Major Dale Brandenburg.
"We're down just a little bit, so we're going to give people an extra opportunity to come in and sign up and get what they need to help," said Brandenburg.
He adds that often times people don't need much, but they are able to help out with toys for the kids and food items to complete their Christmas dinner.
Brandenburg also want to invite everyone from the community to join them Friday night for their 5th annual Kettle Kick-off Winter Carnival. They will have bounce houses, games, coffee, hot chocolate, ever hamburgers and hots dogs free of charge for all to enjoy.
On top of that, Santa is expected to arrive around 6:00 p.m..
