NORFOLK, Neb. (NCN) - The Nebraska Public Power District is warning customers of an ongoing scam.

Customers in the Norfolk area have reported receiving calls from scammers posing as representatives of NPPD.

These predatory individuals claim a bill must be paid immediately or the power will be shut off. Sometimes the scammer’s caller ID is falsified so it appears to originate from the utility company.

NPPD Retail General Manager Tim Arlt said the scam has now spread into western Nebraska as they received reports of a similar scam taking place in Chadron

Arlt advised anyone who receives such a call to contact their team immediately.
