Scott Stover steps down as Sodbusters' manager

HASTINGS, Neb. -- Hastings Sodbuster Manager Scott Stover is leaving the team effective immediately. The first-year skipper posted to Twitter Monday afternoon, citing "unforeseeable job details" as the reason for his departure.

Team General Manager and Co-President Bryan Frew will take over for Stover beginning Monday against the Western Nebraska Pioneers.

Frew tells Local 4 Sports Stover is "irreplaceable" and it's "sad to see him go."

"What he's done [here] is incredible. He leaves [the team] on excellent terms," said Frew.

Despite his departure, Frew expects Stover to return as manager for the 2019 season. However, he understands circumstances may change. The two planned on co-recruiting this fall, scouting players across the country to make up next year's team.

Hastings (20-25) is one game ahead of the Spearfish Sasquatch for second place in the Clark Division standings. The top two teams from each division advance to the playoffs.
