Tailgate party to cheer Huskers, support Nebraska Children's Home

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - You won't have to travel to Illinois this weekend to have a Husker tailgate and watch the game. The Nebraska Children's Home Society will be hosting a Hometown Husker Tailgate party Saturday night at Kincaider Brewing Company in Grand Island. The fun starts at 6:00 p.m, with kickoff of the Huskers vs. Illinois set for 7:00 p.m.

There will be food and drink, along with games and prizes. Adult tickets are $35, children at $15. Those four and under are free.

Everyone is invited to stay and watch the game.

"We've got raffle prizes all throughout the game," said Daren Niemeyer, a volunteer with the Children's Home. "As the game progresses, the raffle prizes should get better, too."

Niemeyer says the society is dependent on donations, and they wanted to try a new, fun way to raise funds for the many youth oriented services the Nebraska Children's Home Society provides across the state.

"They started off an an adoption agency primarily," said Niemeyer. "They've kind of branched out into more different avenues - talking with teens, talking with kids. They do some foster care in the Omaha area. Anything for the kids, basically."

Niemeyer stresses the tailgate for anyone that wants at attend, previous connections to the society are not required.
