The $6 Million remodel of the student union at UNK is almost complete

Kearney, Neb. (KSNB) - The remodeled student union at UNK has the latest technology and a more modern atmosphere. That means more students are coming to study, eat and just hang out.

"It's a really big improvement from what it was, everything is so modern, the furniture, the chairs and the big screen TV is really nice," said student Madison Eckoff.

Construction started last spring and students are excited with what has been done so far.

"The new student union is really awesome, there is a bunch of seating for everyone to fit with a Chick-fil-a and Starbucks, it's really great to have more dining options," said student Bailey Reigle.

While students are happy about the new Chic-fil-A and remodeled Starbucks coffee shop, they are most impressed by the video wall. Massive in size, it is made up of nine flat-screen, 55 inch TV's.

"The video wall is really awesome, we have watched a few football games on it and we hosted a trivia night down here. We put the trivia questions on the big screen, it was awesome," continued Reigle.

There is even a stage that students can use for talent shows or other events.

"They can plan performances, do open mic night, things like that. We might even be able to get those hooked up so that people all through the union can watch throughout the various video walls throughout campus," said Kelly Bartling, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Communications.

The video wall will be used to communicate messages to students as well as promote upcoming events.

The only project left to be completed is the renovated bookstore.
