When your child heads out trick or treating next Wednesday, do you know where your area stands according to safety?

Some good news for Nebraskans. Lincoln is ranked #1 safest in the nation, according to a new report from Your Local Security on the Safest and Most Dangerous Metro Areas for Trick or Treating.

Your Local Security analyzed four data points pertaining to trick-or-treating safety—percent of trick or treaters, number of pedestrian car deaths, violent crime rates, and ratio of sex offenders—to determine the most and least safe cities for your trick or treating clan.

The report finds that Lincoln has the lowest rate of pedestrian deaths and lowest rate of sex offenders per capita.

Grand Island and Omaha-Council Bluffs are the two other Nebraska metro areas ranked in the top 10.

Florida has six cities in the 10 most dangerous metro areas for trick or treating. This is largely due to the abundant senior population, which affects both the percentage of kids in area as well as pedestrian death rates.

An estimated 41 million trick or treaters take to the streets every Halloween.
