NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A local college women's basketball team is making a community garden pretty again. The North Platte Community College Women's Basketball Team traded basketballs for wheelbarrow and garden gloves.

The athletes were volunteering their time at the Community Garden on 8th and Willow streets in North Platte. Their jobs were to pull weeds, paint, and spread mulch around the plants.

Two players, Madisyn Francis, and Kelly Ryan, called the experience fun and fulfilling, plus allowed them to work as a team off of the court and out of the classroom.

The garden is a community project of Keep North Platte/Lincoln County Beautiful.

The garden is growing things like squash, tomatoes, and sweet corn.
