KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) A plea bargain may be coming in a Kearney sexual assault case.

Miguel Guzman, 20, Grand Island, is charged with first degree sexual assault. He was arrested February 26, 2019, for a reported sexual assault that occurred on February 24, 2019. The incident happened in a residence off the UNK campus at 2018 12th Avenue in Kearney. Prosecutors have charged Guzman with first degree sexual assault. Court records with details about the incident were sealed by the court.

Guzman's trial was scheduled to begin Monday, a year to the date on which the assault was reported. But Friday, Guzman's attorney asked the judge to delay the trial, saying that prosecutors have agreed to a plea bargain. The attorney's filing also said that the Buffalo County Attorney's office had no objection to the delay.

If convicted on the sexual assault charge, Guzman could get up to 50 years in prison.
