KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Officials said the demand for cybersecurity is high and the need is not going to go down.

Students will learn a number of things with UNK's new Cybersecurity Operations Bachelor of Science Major.

"They learn what computer networks are, they learn learn how to build computer networks and then from that foundation we teach them how to create networks that are secure," Matt Miller, co-creator of the new major, said.

Students are excited about the new major.

"It sounds like fun if you like messing with computers and if you like challenging yourself," Justin Joyce, a UNK student, said. "It's a great major to get into."

For some students, this is their dream major.

"Just ever since high school I've had interest in security and it's always in the news that something got hacked," Joyce said. "I mean you can always have a job and you can always try to prevent that."

Cybersecurity experts will always be in demand.

If you're a student interested in declaring this as your major, please contact Matt Miller at 308-865-8824.

Officials said students can declare this as their major in the spring.
