North Platte, Neb. (KNOP) - North Platte's largest employer is hiring again. Union Pacific Railroad will host a job fair in the city, on May 15 & 16, to interview candidates and explain the opportunities with the company.
Calli Hite, spokesman with UPRR, says the hiring is in response to customer demand.
The new employees will work on train crews and diesel electricians. A two-day hiring fair at the local community college will offer candidates on-site interviews on Monday, May 15 and Tuesday, May 16, at Mid Plains Community College, Classroom 202 at 1101 Halligan Drive.
The hiring fair is from noon til 5 pm on Monday, and 8 am til 2pm on Tuesday.
North Platte is the home of the world’s largest rail classification yard, called Bailey Yard, and is core part of Union Pacific railroad’s operation, which spans 23 states and delivers the goods that Americans use daily.
Train crew jobs are responsible for providing the safe, on-time, and on-plan movement of freight trains. Pay for a train crew member starts at $40,000 a year. Hite says there is potential to earn $75,000 as employees advance to conductors and engineers.
Diesel electrician jobs pay $30.13/hour and include responsibility for inspecting, repairing and maintaining electrical components on diesel locomotives.
