GRAND ISLAND, Neb (KSNB) -- Grand Island police remained on the scene early Tuesday morning after a van drove into a business on 2nd Street.
The van slammed into the front door of the Walgreen's drug store at 2nd Street and Broadwell. The van ended up completely inside the store, as seen in a picture posted by GIPD on Twitter. The crash happened around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Grand Island police arrested Mursal Abdi, 27, who was listed as homeless. Police say a patrol officer saw the 2001 white Dodge Ram van driving without headlights near the corner of 5th and White streets. The driver refused to stop and continued driving for about seven blocks.
Police said the driver then turned on to Second street and crashed into the front door of Walgreen's. Police say no-one was hurt, but the doorway, an ATM and a beverage display were damaged.
Abdi was arrested for possession of stolen property, driving under the influence, willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, driving without headlights, refusal to submit to a chemical test and false reporting.
The van's owner Martin Borges, reported the vehicle stolen later Tuesday morning from his residence in the 300 block of East first street.
