HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) Helping people with food is a continuing theme for the Hastings Salvation Army in the summer months.
The Hastings Salvation Army could use more volunteers to help prepare food for their summer mobile feeding program.
The Salvation Army helped with the Hastings Can Care-a-Van that netted over 1600 pounds of food for two food pantries, including their own.
"Last month, we had a record for people coming to the Salvation Army for food assistance," said Major Dale Brandenburg of the Salvation Army. "So, it came at a good time."
Keeping with the food theme, Brandenburg also pointed out that their summer mobile food program is scheduled to begin in three weeks. He says they have lots of volunteers for serving food, but could still use some help when it comes to preparing the food.
"We normally start around 11:00 in the morning, 11:30," said Brandenburg. "We start serving at 4:00 p.m. So, when you have to prepare 300 meals, it takes a little bit of while.
