Volunteers begin cleaning up Grand Island in preparation of State Fair
With the state fair just two weeks away volunteers are helping Grand Island look as clean as possible.
More than 500 volunteers are cleaning up roads, parks and other areas.
The GI Clean Area Community Center has organized the city-wide clean-up.
The goal of the event is to make the city look as best as possible before the fair begins.
"We're going to clean up Highway 34. We're going to clean up Stuhr Road, East Highway, West Highway 30, so we're going to encompass the whole city, besides a lot of parks and a lot of main throwaways to the State Fair Park," said Denise McGovern-Gallagher.
The clean-up began Thursday morning along Skypark Road.
Starting Saturday volunteers will be cleaning various locations every day, leading up to the State Fair.
