HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings College men's basketball team just could not find a way to get on top of Midland University as they fell 85-74 on Wednesday in Lynn Farrell Arena.
The Broncos (5-4, 1-3 GPAC) and the Warriors went toe-to-toe in the early goings, with the Broncos getting on the board first, with a basket in the paint by Evan Tricker (SO/Naples, FL). After going up 4-0, the Warriors would go on a 11-0 run. The Broncos would fight back and tie the game at 14-14 after a 3-pointer by Shane Chamberlain (SO/Harlan, IA) with 12:41 left in the half.
The Warriors would go on a 16-to-7 run to regain the lead 30-21 with 5:01 left in the half. After hitting a three to push the lead to 12, Brendan Lipovsky (SR/Fairfield, NE) would hit a three of his own and a basket by Zach Kitten (SR/Hastings, NE), help cut the Warriors lead down to 39-32 going into halftime.
The Broncos would manage to get the game back within two on layup by Bart Hiscock (SR/Bennington, NE) and another three by Lipovsky early in the second half. But the Warriors would manage to get their offense on a roll as they were able to put together a 23-to-8 run and lead 62-45 with just 10:18 left in the game.
The Warriors would go on to take the GPAC match-up against the Broncos 85-74.
Lipovsky led the way for Hastings scoring 18 points on 8-of-19 shooting. Hiscock picked up a double-double scoring 15 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Mason Hiemstra (FR/Alliance , NE) scored 10 points.
Midland finished the game shooting just over 47 percent from the floor while Hastings finished at 43 percent.
Hastings falls to 5-4 on the year and will be back in action Friday Nov. 29 as the Broncos head down to Pittsburg, Kan. to take on Pittsburg State University with tip off set for 6:00 p.m. CT
