Broncos blowout 13-ranked Dakota Wesleyan to wrap up regular season

The No. 4 ranked Hastings College Lady Broncos finished their regular season with an 80-52 victory over No. 13 Dakota Wesleyan on Senior Day to improve to 28-2 (20-2).

The Lady Broncos wasted no time building their lead on the Tigers, as Shandra Farmer (SR/Hastings, NE) would drive to the basket to give her team the early 8-2 lead. Sophia Pankratz (SR/Hastings, NE) would push the lead to double-digits with her 3-pointer as HC led 17-7 with 2:19 left in first quarter.

The Tigers were able bring the lead back under 10 after driving to the paint making the basket and picking up the foul for the and-one opportunity as the Lady Broncos led 19-12 at the end of the first quarter.

DWU was able to make a two-possession game with 7:39 on the clock with a basket from the paint to make it a 22-16 game. A three-point basket from Emma Grenfell (SR/York, NE) and a basket from Pankratz would extend the lead back to double-digits with 5:54 left till halftime. A 6-0 run by the Tigers would make it a five-point game but the Lady Broncos would put together a 6-0 run of their own to bring the lead back to 11. Casey Doronkina (SR/Pleasant Hill, CA) would give Hastings their biggest lead of the first half with 3-pointer to make it a 16-point game. DWU would make the final basket of the half as they trailed HC 42-28 at the half.

After a steal by Grenfell, she would find Gabby Grasso (SR/Omaha, NE) who would dish it to Farmer for the easy basket to give the Lady Broncos a 48-31 lead. The Tigers would go on a 6-2 run to make it a 50-37 game after a basket in the paint with 5:46 left in the third quarter. A free throw would make it a 12-point game, but Hastings would extend the lead back to 16 after a free throw from Grasso would make it 62-46 as the team's headed into the fourth quarter.

Hastings would continue with their fast pace offense as they would just dominate the final quarter over the Tigers. Taylor Beacom (SO/Papillion, NE) would hit a dagger of a three to open up the fourth, and then another basket from Beacom would extend the Lady Broncos lead to 21 with 6:59 to go. The Tigers would have no answer for Hastings as Jordyn Fiddelke (FR/Ravenna, NE) drained a three-pointer with one second on the clock to give her team a 28-point lead, their largest of the game. Hastings would go on to take the game 80-52 over the Tigers.

Three of the Lady Bronco starters were able to put up double digits on the night. Grenfell led the team with 15 points on 5-for-8 shooting and also picked up three steals. Farmer would finish right behind with 13 points off of 5-for-11 shooting picking up eight rebounds and dishing out seven assists. Pankratz also finished the game with 13 points, and also shooting 5-for-11 while pulling down seven rebounds. Kaitlyn Schmit (JR/Omaha, NE) would add nine points, and Beacom would come off the bench and add eight points. Grasso would finish with seven points, six rebounds, and two blocks on the day.

Hastings will return to the floor on Feb. 26 when they will host Jamestown at home for the first round of the GPAC Tournament with tip-off set for 7:00 pm. CT
