Broncos cap off the year with fifteenth-straight win

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings College women's basketball team finished up the Cruzin Classic with a 70-49 victory over DIII SUNY Institute of Technology Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Broncos wasted little time against the Wildcats, jumping out to a quick 14-4 lead after basket by Gabby Grasso (SR/Omaha, NE). From there, the Lady Broncos dominated on both sides of the ball as they limited the Wildcats to just two more points during the rest of the quarter as they would take a 24-6 lead into the 2nd quarter.

The Wildcats would slowly get their offense going as they were able to cut into the Lady Broncos lead in the second quarter, with 5:36 left in the first half, the Wildcats would cut the lead to 13 as the Lady Broncos led 30-17. A 3-pointer by Taylor Beacom (SO/Papillion, NE) and a pair of free throws by Emma Grenfell (SR/York, NE) would give the Lady Broncos a 44-24 lead as the team headed in to halftime.

Coming out of half, the Lady Broncos would continue to dominate in the second half as a Shandra Farmer (SR/Hastings, NE) would drain a 3-pointer with 4:10 left to push the lead up to 30. The Lady Broncos would end up going into the final quarter up 62-36 over the Wildcats.

With the bench playing majority of the 4th quarter for the Lady Broncos, the Wildcats were able to cut into the large lead but the lead would be too much for the Wildcats to overcome as the Lady Broncos would finish the game by a score of 70-49.

The Lady Broncos had three players score in double figures led by Beacom, as she would lead the offensive end with 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting and almost perfect behind the arc 3-for-4. Farmer and Karli Hale (SO/Holdrege, NE) would both finish the game with 11 points each as Farmer would shoot 4-for-7 while Hale would set a career high in points going 5-for-6 on the day. Grasso would lead the Lady Broncos with 9 rebounds on the day.

Hastings finished the game shooting just 32 percent from the floor while SUNY would shoot 34 percent. The Wildcats would end up out rebounds the Lady Broncos 45-to-43.

Hastings improves to 15-0 (7-0) on the season and will be back in action after the new year on Thursday Jan. 2 as the Lady Broncos will travel to Sioux City, Iowa to take on Briar Cliff with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m. CST.
