HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings College women's soccer team defeated University of Jamestown 2-0 on a cold and windy night Tuesday for a GPAC Tournament Semifinal match up.

Courtney Doeschot celebrates scoring goal for Hastings College

The Broncos wasted no time on this extremely windy night to find the back of the net, as Emmy Henely (SR/Papillion, NE) sent a ball right into the middle of the box where Abby Morillon (SR/Cheyenne, WY) was able to find the ball and head it into the goal. Just 9 minutes into the game the Broncos lead 1-0.

With the strong wind at their back, Henely sent another ball right over the middle, this time Courtney Doeschot (JR/Omaha, NE) found the ball and sent it into the net in the 13th minute to give the Broncos a 2-0 lead.

The Broncos would continue to push the attack on offense but would be unable to find the net again in the first half as they would hold onto that lead going into the second half.

Going into the second half the Broncos would face the disadvantage of playing into the strong wind. The Broncos would send a couple shot towards the goal but would have no luck finding another goal. It didn't matter though as Hastings continued to do what it did all night which was keep possession of the ball along with a strong back line to seal the win.

The Broncos lead the Jimmies 16-6 on shot, and 5-4 on shots on goal. Broncos were only able to pick up three corner kick on the night compared to two or the Jimmies. Sarah Carpenter (JR/Olathe, KS) was perfect for the Broncos with 4 saves to help shutout the Jimmies. Hastings would also out foul the Jimmies 10-9.

Hastings improves to 16-3 on the season. In the other GPAC Semifinal match, top seeded Midland would defeat Briar Cliff 2-0, which means the Broncos will travel to Fremont, Neb. to take on the Warriors on Nov. 15th, with kickoff set at 7:00 p.m. CT for a chance at the GPAC Tournament Championship.
