HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) Adams Central Quarterback, Evan Johnson broke the Class C-1 records for most completions and passing yards in a season. The previous record holders were current Husker Matt Masker and Scott Frost, respectively.
"It's just a huge honor to put my name with the guys who had the record before me," Johnson said. "More than anything I'm just glad it happened on a win. We played a good team on Friday. I think our team played very well so it was very rewarding to happen during that game."
Johnson has thrown for 6,919 yards and 494 completions.
"It's great to have his name mentioned in the same breath as Scott Frost, it's a testament to what he has been able to do and his teammates over four years too," Adams Central Football Coach, Shawn Mulligan said. "It's an individual award that will go in the record books with his name going down but knowing that there is a lot of guys who have helped contribute to that over the last four years is very rewarding as a coach."
The Patriots are a perfect 8-0 on the season and Johnson does not shy away when talking about this year's team.
"This team is special. We all get along with each other really well. We just have a lot of fun whether it's in practice or in games," Johnson said. "Whether it's in the classroom as well, this team is just awesome."
He will have a chance to pad his records Oct. 25 when they host Cozad in their last regular season game.
