(KSNB) - This week's Game of the Week features a C-2 rivalry, between St. Cecilia (4-3) and Doniphan-Trumbull (6-1).
Doniphan-Trumbull prepares for their week eight match-up with St. Cecilia.
The Bluehawks are coming off a 21-20 overtime win over Raymond Central. Where they got a great effort from their defense, that has given up just 13 points per game.
"We just have that mindset with our kids,” said St. Cecilia football coach Cody Jackson. “We want the defense to be strong, we would like to have that same intensity on offense, but I feel like the way we play defense kind of speaks for itself."
The Cardinals week seven matchup was quite different. Their high powered offense that averages over 48 points a game, pounded Superior 70-7.
"When we've been able to execute and play well, we've been able to put some points on the board. Throwing the football and running the football," said Doniphan-Trumbull football coach Brent Breckner.
Even though the Cardinals have had more success in 2019, both coaches know how a rivalry can change things up.
"They're an unbelievably coached team, and they have some really good athletes and some kids that just love football," said Jackson.
"Coach Jackson will have those kids ready to go and ready to play good football. We like going down there and playing, we like playing against those guys. It will still be a good football game, a good rivalry game,” said Breckner. “We expect them to come out and play good football just like St. Cecilia always does."
As for the Cardinals, while they have had quite the season, they believe they're just getting started.
"We're not there yet, we're still a long ways away from the ceiling of our team,” said Doniphan-Trumbull senior Keithan Stafford. “But once we get to that, we're going to be pretty dang good.”
