HASTINGS, Neb - The Hastings College women's basketball team opened up an early double digit lead en route to a 91-67 victory over (RV) Bellevue on Tuesday night in Lynn Farrell Arena.
The Bruins and Broncos were in a tight battle late in the first quarter as Hastings was leading 19-17 following a Morgan Cuffe free throw with 2:14 remaining in the period.
This is where Hastings would show its might as Mackenzie Willicott (SR/Blue Hill, NE) picked off a pass and drove in for the easy layup putting the Broncos up 21-17.
On the next possession for HC, Willicott buried a 3-pointer from the top of the key to pad the lead to 24-17. Hastings was not done as Kaitlyn Schmit (SO/Omaha, NE) drained a three followed by an Emma Grenfell (JR/York, NE) layup with just seconds left in the quarter as the Broncos took a 29-17 lead into the second quarter.
From there, the Broncos would not relinquish its double digit lead for the rest of the game.
Grenfell had her best night as a Bronco scoring a career high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting including 2-for-3 from behind the arc. Farmer led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting.
