Hastings, NE -- Fresh off an upset of in-state rival Doane, the Hastings College football team was unable to keep up with Midland, falling to the Warriors 36-15 on Saturday.
The Broncos (3-4, 1-4 GPAC) found themselves behind in the early goings when the Warriors scored a six-yard passing touchdown on their first drive of the game.
Outside of one play, both teams struggled with getting to the opposing side of the field for the remainder of the first quarter, allowing Midland to maintain their 7-0 lead over Hastings.
The offensive woes ended in the Broncos' first drive of the second quarter, with a 22-yard reception by Xavier McGuire (SR/Queen Creek, AZ) getting the Broncos in the red-zone before Clark Livingston (SR/San Juan Capistrano, CA) took it in himself for a 17-yard rushing touchdown to make it a 7-7 game with 8:30 left in the first half.
Midland was able to answer back with 2:46 left in the first half with a 65-yard passing touchdown to get ahead 14-7 going into halftime.
The momentum continued for the Warriors who scored in their first drive of the second have to get ahead of the Broncos 21-7.
Hastings was able to get things going in their favor again when Tyree Nesmith (SO/Baltimore, MD) got an 11-yard rushing touchdown. After the carry by Nesmith, the Broncos lined up for the two-point conversion and sent Alex Stogdill (SR/Lincoln, NE) in for the rush and successful conversion to make it a 21-15 game.
The Warriors had an answer with their own touchdown and two-point conversion to get back ahead of the Broncos by 14. Midland added one more touchdown en route to their 36-15 victory.
Next for the Broncos is a trip to Seward to take on the Concordia Bulldogs next Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CST.
