Hastings College women's basketball team makes quick work of Mount Marty

HASTINGS, Neb - The Hastings College women's basketball team was able to keep their winning streak alive when Mount Marty came to town on Saturday, beating the Lancers 78-49

The Broncos (3-1, 2-0 GPAC) got the first point of the game with a Sophie Pankratz free throw, but was quickly answered with a two pointer by the Lancers.

Down 2-1, the Broncos went on a 8-0 run, with shots by Shandra Farmer (JR/Hastings, NE), Pankratz, Mackenzie Willicott (SR/Blue Hill, NE), and Kennedy Sander (JR/Lincoln, NE), to take a 9-1 lead over the Lancers, a lead that would not be given away.

Hastings was able to raising their lead incrementally, getting ahead by 12 with 2:26 en route to their 21-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Lancers were able to climb back to within eight of the Broncos with a two-pointer at the 7:20 mark of the second quarter, but felt the pressure of the Broncos' offense with buckets by Halle Plumbtree (SO/Fullerton, NE), Tatum Stenger (SR/Omaha, NE), and an Emma Grenfell (JR/York, NE) three-pointer to put Hastings ahead 32-17.

Leading 32-21, Hastings went on another 10-2 run to get ahead 41-23 just before halftime.

Hastings kept the offense pouring in the second half, with their lead never falling below 18 after their first made basket of the half, and building their lead up to 29 with :44 left in the third quarter.

The largest lead of the game came with 7:27 left in the game when Sander made a layup to put the Broncos ahead of the Lancers by 33.

The offense was well-balanced for the Broncos, with only Willicott and Plumbtree in double-digits.

Next for the Broncos is a pair of tough road matchups, as they will go to Seward to take on the No. 1 Concordia Bulldogs at 6 p.m. CST on Wednesday, then to Mitchell, S.D. to take on the No. 2 ranked Dakota Wesleyan Tigers for a 2 p.m. CST matchup on Saturday.
