LINCOLN, Neb. — Just a week from Nebraska’s season-opener against Akron, the Huskers have named a starting quarterback.
Adrian Martinez was was the top quarterback on the Huskers depth chart Sunday morning.
The true freshman from Fresno, California had been battling redshirt freshman Tristan Gebbia for the job throughout spring and fall camps.
Martinez will be the first true freshman quarterback to start a season-opener for the Huskers.
The Huskers open the season at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Some other notables on the depth chart: Greg Bell appears to have a slight edge on Devine Ozigbo and Maurice Washington for the starting running back spot, true freshman Barret Pickering is above Omaha native and redshirt freshman Cole Frahm for the kicking job, JD Spielman is listed as the top kick returner and Tyjon Lindsey tops the chart for punt returners.
