Lady Bronco basketball picks up 72-45 win over Haskell

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings College women's basketball team continued to shine offensively as they move to 9-0 (4-0) with a 72-45 win over Haskell Indian Nations University.

The Lady Broncos wasted little time jumping out to a quick 10-1 lead as Sophia Pankratz (SR/Hastings, NE) and Taylor Beacom (SO/Papillion, NE) hit back-to-back 3-pointers. Beacom would hit another three to push the Lady Broncos lead to 20-5 with 2:42 left in the first quarter.

With 6:36 left in the second quarter Shandra Farmer (SR/Hastings, NE) would drain a three of her own to push the Lady Broncos lead up to 29 points as they led 37-8. Kaitlyn Schmit (JR/Omaha, NE) would hit a three and a basket of her own to finish the first half leading Haskell 46-18. The Lady Broncos shot an impressive on 16-of-30 shots (53.3%) while holding Haskell to just 34 percent shooting on 7-for-23.

The Lady Broncos would continue to dominate in the second half as they would call the dogs off with 6:09 left in the third quarter after Pankratz would put the Lady Broncos up 55-24 with a basket in the paint.

Haskell would be unable to keep up with the Lady Broncos fast pace as they would fall 72-45.

The Lady Broncos had three players score in double figures led by Pankratz would lead the offensive end with 15 point on 5-for-8 shooting and perfect behind the arc 3-for-3. Schmit finished with 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting, Beacom added 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting and Farmer would pick up 9 points of her own.

Hastings finished the game shooting 41 percent from the floor while Haskell struggled shooting just 31 percent. Hastings was also hot from behind the arc connecting on 12 three points on the afternoon.

Hastings also won the rebounding battle 30-to-27.

Hastings will be back in action Saturday Nov. 30 as (RV) Bellevue University comes to town as part of the C2 Hotel Classic with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m. in Lynn Farrell Arena.
