Hastings, NE -- For the seventh time in a row, the Hastings College women's soccer team found themselves on the right side of the final score against in-state rival Doane, beating the Tigers 3-0 at Lloyd Wilson Field on Wednesday while also remaining undefeated on the season.
The Broncos (6-0-1, 3-0 GPAC) put the pedal to the metal right off the bat, with Berkley Sharp (SO/Basehor, KS), Kaylie Agostine (FR/Lincoln, NE), Rhiannon Castle de Ortega (SR/Newcastle, England), Courtney Doeschot (SO/Omaha, NE), and Olivia McMahon (SO/Omaha, NE) combining for the first nine shots of the game.
It was not until the 29th minute that Hastings struck when Sharp was able to get a good touch to McMahon for the goal and a 1-0 Broncos lead.
Going into halftime with a 1-0 lead and outshooting the Tigers 14-1, the Broncos looked to add onto the lead. Sharp took the first attempt of the half in the 50th minute, but could not get it into the net. Though she did not get the goal, she did get the assist as her shot went off the back of Doeschot into the goal for Doeschot's fourth goal on the season, also putting Hastings on top 2-0 early in the half in the process.
With the lead 2-0, Hastings kept the pressure going, taking the next six shots before Doeschot got the ball to McMahon who sunk her second goal of the evening in the 64th minute, giving Hasting a commanding 3-0 lead.
The trio of McMahon, Doeschot, and Sharp proved to be a big influence on the outcome of this game with McMahon's two goals on five shots, four on goal, Doeschot's goal on four shots, three on goal, along with Sharp's two assists on a game-high 10 shots, five on goal.
For the Broncos, they will take the next two days to rest for their next match, a Saturday home match against the Mount Marty Lancers at 5:30 p.m. CST.
