Hastings, NE -- After falling to the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the nation in consecutive games, the Hastings College women's basketball team has been able to rattle two quality wins, including their 76-61 victory over the (RV) Aquinas Saints on Friday as part of the C3 Hotel Thanksgiving Classic.

The Broncos (5-3) fell behind in the very early goings, with the Saints opening the game with a three-pointer and eventually getting ahead of the Broncos 6-4.

Trailing the Saints by two, Hastings was able to rattle off a 13-0 run, a run that spanned 2:20 and included points from Kennedy Sander (JR/Lincoln, NE)s, Emma Grenfell (JR/York, NE), Shandra Farmer (JR/Hastings, NE), and capped by a three-pointer by Kaitlyn Schmit (SO/Omaha, NE), to go ahead of the Saints 17-6. The Saints finished the quarter off outscoring Hastings 4-2 to cut the Broncos' deficit down to seven.

With a 28-20 lead and 2:11 left in the half, the Broncos looked to build onto it before halftime, but the Saints went on an offensive run, getting the score to 28-26, but a three-pointer by Grenfell put Hastings ahead 31-26 going into halftime.

The second half was an offensive showing for both teams, but the Saints would never get within less than six of the Broncos, while the Broncos were lights out in the second half, shooting 53 percent and 64 percent from beyond the arc.

Using their hot shooting, Hastings climbed up to as high as a 15-point lead, with Sophie Pankratz hitting the last bucket of the game, a three-pointer to put Hastings ahead 76-61.

The Broncos were led offensively by Farmer, Schmit, and Grenfell. Farmer had a game-high 24 points. Schmit and Grenfell rounded out the Broncos in double-digits for scoring, with Schmit scoring 14 and Grenfell scoring 11. Mackenzie Willicott (SR/Blue Hill, NE) also finished with nine points. Farmer and Schmit tallied four three-pointers a piece.

The next game for the Broncos is the finale of the C3 Hotel Thanksgiving Classic, when they will face a familiar foe in the Haskell Indian Nations Indians out of Kansas. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. CST after the Doane-Aquinas game.
