Lopers dominate Southwest Baptist

Kearney, NE -- The third-ranked Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team allowed just 26 points in a quick sweep of Southwest Baptist (-8, -9, -9) Saturday afternoon at the Health & Sports Center.

The Lopers (24-1, 10-1) push its home court win streak to 65 straight while the Bearcats (4-20, 0-11) remain winless in league play.

Holding an opponent to single digits in all three sets for the first time in the rally scoring era, UNK hit .368 and held to SBU to a -.101 effort. The Bearcats, ending up with 17 kills and 28 attack errors, didn't lead on the scoreboard until early in the third set.

No Loper had more than nine kills but nine different players registered at least one. Off the bench, Grand Island junior middle Mackenzie Puckett had nine and hit .600 while Omaha sophomore outside Madison Stearnes had five kills in 13 swings (.385 pct.). Among the starters, Omaha sophomore right side Mary Katherine Wolfe was at seven kills, three blocks, two digs and two aces.

Defensively, Papillion senior libero Ellie McDonnell had a match-high 20 digs with senior defensive specialist Morgan Stute adding 17 more.

Southwest Baptist saw Greysen Roster having kills and three blocks.

UNK heads to Fort Hays State (7-15, 1-9) Tuesday night.
