Lopez, Whitehall carry Broncos past Doane

Hastings, NE -- The Hastings College men's soccer team has not lost to in-state rival Doane since 2004. On Wednesday, this remains a fact as the Broncos downed the Tigers 4-0 at Lloyd Wilson Field.

The Broncos (6-2, 3-0 GPAC) were able to make their presence known early, getting shots off often. All the shots eventually lead to Daniel Whitehall (SR/Warrington, England) getting the ball to Jonathan Lopez (SO/Omaha, NE) in the 26th minute for a 1-0 Broncos lead.

It was not but three minutes later that Lopez struck again when he had a beautiful spin maneuver to get past a defender and take a shot that hooked off the top crossbar for the goal.

Whitehall did what he does best: score penalty kick goals. The Tigers committed the foul in the 35th minute and sent Whitehall to eventually the goal that got Hastings ahead 3-0.

The second half started how the first half ended; a Whitehall goal in the 52nd minute for a 4-0 Broncos lead.

Hastings kept applying the pressure and forced an own-goal by the Tigers to make it 5-0. Less than a minute later, Huseyin Celik (SO/Norway) got the ball to Nate Miller (JR/Warrensburg, MO) who scored his first goal of the season.

Celik added to his assist column one more time in the 89th minute when he fed the ball to David Panter (FR/Reading, England) for a 7-0 Broncos lead.

The Broncos take the field again on Saturday when the Mount Marty Lancers come to Lloyd Wilson Field for an 8 p.m. matchup.
