Nebraska schools promoting safety in football

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Football is the most popular sport in America. As football has continually risen in popularity, so has the knowledge of the injuries it causes. For the first three weeks of the season, schools throughout Nebraska are participating in the Safety in Football Campaign.

The Nebraska State Athletic Trainer Association is the organizer of the event in the this state, other states will be participating through the high school sports season.

Hastings High School is participating in the campaign for the first time in school history. The major component of the event is the letting people know the benefits of Athletic Trainers.

Athletic trainers are responsible for preventioni, emergency care, first aid, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.

"There is a big push in football to have a lot of safety in all different types of elements," Athletic Trainer, Ashley Conrad said. "I wanted to make sure Hastings is understanding that we are trying to do our best for the athletes here and making sure that they get the appropriate care that they need."

The Safety in Football Campaign wraps up in Nebraska on Friday, September 13.
