A Gering man tells police the victim's sexual assault claims are true

GERING, Neb. - (KNEP) - A 40-year-old Gering man admits to police during an interview that he sexually assaulted a 16-year-old.

Joseph Smith is facing two counts of first degree and two counts of third degree sexual assault (Source Scotts Bluff County Detention Center)

According to the affidavit, Joseph Smith was taken to the Gering Police Station to discuss allegations against him. He was read his Miranda rights and during the hour and a half interview, Smith at first denied the allegations. Court documents detail that it was after a break in which he admitted to everything and that everything the victim stated was true.

The victim alleges Smith began sexually assaulting her in April. The affidavit details the first few alleged incidents began with inappropriate touching. It allegedly escalated earlier this month in which Smith allegedly forced the victim to perform oral sex.

Smith is facing two counts of first degree forcible sexual assault and two counts of third degree sexual assault. A bond has not been set at this time.
