GERING, Neb. As students, teachers and staff return back to school on Friday, August 16th, many wondered about the plans in place for ongoing construction and incoming freshman.

The majority of construction is expected to be complete by October 1st. On Thursday, freshman orientation will be from 10:00am to 11:00am and sophomore orientation from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. (Brian Sherrod, KNEP)

The new entrance of the school can be located right across from the parking lot.

With construction, they are still cleaning up, placing in the furniture and adding in the final touches.

There are still locations in the school that are not completed and are isolated.

“There are a couple of areas in the building that aren’t complete yet,” said Bob Hastings, Superintendent. “The auditorium, which we never planned on having done when school started, and the old cafeteria is not completed yet.”

For nervous freshman, there will be signage to tell you where to go and you can ask the staff for help.

“There are going to be a lot of opportunities for small groups of kids to be able to kind of feel their way around to make sure they understand where they are going to go,” explained Hastings. “There will be a lot of stuff around to help them to their classrooms and to make sure that everyone is very comfortable with their first day of school.”

Freshman also have the upperclassmen for help.

“The upperclassmen are going to be there to help,” said Hastings. “The freshman and sophomores are newcomers into the building. The upperclassmen were there not that long ago themselves so they know how important it is to have that support.”

To also help freshman and sophomores, they will provide orientations around the school.

On Thursday, freshman orientation will be from 10:00am to 11:00am and sophomore orientation from 1:30pm to 2:30pm.

The majority of construction is expected to be complete by October 1st.

They will have their grand opening on September 23rd; the first day of Homecoming Week.
