Today at the Gering Civic Center, they are keeping the tradition alive.

To become an Old Settler, you have to be born within the Panhandle of Nebraska or Eastern Wyoming and have lived here for 45 years.

To join the Half-Century Club, you have to live here for 50 years.

They average between 300 to 350 members.

“It’s a time people can get together,” said Norma Ray, Festivities Coordinator. “It’s so much fun to see people come in here. You live in the same town but you never see one another. A lot of them come to meet new acquaintances and see old friends.”

Registration will last until 3:00pm today and go from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday.
