Benefit concert for farmers raised $195,000

GERING, Neb. To help farmers and ranchers who are dependent on the Gering-Ft. Laramie Irrigation Canal, 21st Century Equipment hosted a benefit concert last Saturday.

The concert raised $195,000 with 100% of their proceeds going towards the Fort Laramie Canal Breach Disaster Relief Fund to support area producers affected by the canal breach and tunnel collapse. (Brian Sherrod, KNEP)

The benefit concert dubbed “Farmer Strong” featured Chancey Williams and the Younger Brothers Band and Ned LeDoux at the Gering Five Rocks Amphitheater.

At this concert, they raised $195,000 with 100% of their proceeds going towards the Fort Laramie Canal Breach Disaster Relief Fund to support area producers affected by the canal breach and tunnel collapse.

The number is expected to increase to over $200,000 once the sponsors provide their share of food and drink concessions and merchandise sales.

In addition to the concert ticket proceeds, area businesses and individuals donated four totes of seed corn, tuition to 4 different colleges, football tickets for UNL, UW, and CSU, Rockies Tickets, 2 halves of beef, lick tubs, roof repair gift certificates and a new Honda walk behind mower.
