Victim is now receiving treatment in Denver after being hit by car

Scottsbluff Police Captain Tony Straub states the 12-year-old has since been transported to Children's Hospital in Denver, Colorado. He is currently receiving additional treatment for numerous injuries sustained from the accident. At this time the investigation remains ongoing.

Emergency personnel responded to a car vs. pedestrian accident on the intersection of Broadway and 22nd Street around 5:57pm leaving a 12 year old boy injured.

The investigation showed that a pickup truck, driven by 20 year old Jacob Gompert of rural Bayard, was speeding and traveling south bound on Broadway approaching 22nd Street.

The 12 year old boy was struck crossing Broadway and transported to Regional West Medical Center by ambulance.

Gompert was cited for reckless driving, failure to yield to a pedestrian, and no valid registration.

The investigation continues to why the pickup was speeding.
