Chadron Police arrest one after report of chase in Pine Ridge

CHADRON, Neb. - (KNEP) - Chadron Police arrest one after finding a stolen vehicle involved in a Monday afternoon car chase.

According to Chadron Police Department, they became aware of a car chase on the Pine Ridge Reservation involving a stolen Toyota Tundra. The truck, which was heading south into Nebraska, allegedly had five people inside along with a pit bull. The driver, who had a warrant out for him, was thought to also have an AK-47 assault rifle and a shotgun.

Chadron Police state they saw the truck traveling west bound on Bartlett Road but did not chase after it. Later in the night, while conducting a follow up at the Regency Trailer Park, an officer located the truck parked outside a trailer.

The officer also saw 37-year-old Chad Tobacco walking out of a trailer with a pit bull. After backup arrived, a search of the truck produced a 40-round high capacity AK-47 rifle magazine but no other weapons.

Tobacco is facing a $25,000 bond along with a felony and misdemeanor charge for possession of stolen property. He is currently being held at the Dawes County Jail.

The truck and the dog have been returned to their owner.
