City of Gering announces restrictions to some of its offices

GERING, Neb. - (KNEP) - City of Gering officials detail upon recommendation they will institute restrictions to some of their office buildings.

According to the city, starting Thursday the administration office, utility office, police department and public library will be closed to walk-in traffic.

Those needing inspections, building permits or any type of permit can call the admin office at 308-436-5096 to schedule an appointment. You can also email them at and the request will be forwarded to the appropriate city department. They will have staff available from 7:30am to 4:30pm.

City officials are encouraging residents to pay their utility bills on their website. The convenience fees for credit or debit card transactions will be waived. They also have a drop box at the administration building as well.

The police department will have a ring-down phone outside the office if you need to speak to an officer. They will continue to take some reports involving civil matters and property crimes through phone calls. Accident reports/purchase permits/burn permits are available by calling 308-436-5089.

Staff at the public library will be available from 7:30am to 4:30pm weekdays to assist in book selection as well as answering questions via phone or email. The book drop is located in the northwest corner of the building. Books and movies can still be checked out by curbside delivery only. Staff will schedule a time to meet patrons at their cars. Computer use will be by appointment only and one person at a time. The time is limited 30 minutes per person. The WI-FI reaches the parking area outside and is available to everyone.

The Gering landfill will remain open but the Baler facility will be closed to walk-in traffic. Customers may use a service window on the north side of the building.

The Monument Shadows Golf Course is open but walk-up tee-times will not be available. The Pro Shop will also be closed to walk-in traffic. A service window on the northeast side of the shop allows for people to pay green fees and make purchases.

The Robidoux RV Park will not allow for new customers but existing ones are allowed to stay.

The West Lawn Cemetery will remain open, however the office will be closed to the public. You are to call to make an appointment for questions or to purchase a burial plot.

Civic plaza bathrooms will remain open along with the Common Grounds Dog Park and city parks.
