SCOTTS BLUFF COUNTY, Neb. - (KNEP) - Scotts Bluff County Attorney opens investigation into the death of a man brought into custody on Friday.

According to David Eubanks, Corey Green was arrested by Scottsbluff Police just after 2pm on Friday in regards to a warrant out for his arrest.

That warrant stems from a November 10th incident where the affidavit states Green was at a house in the 700 block of K Street in Gering. While at the house, witnesses say he was supposed to be in Alliance for rehab but appeared to be high on drugs and was sweating profusely even though it was 25 degrees outside. The victim told Green to just go to jail instead of rehab at which point he became aggressive and punched the victim in the eye.

Green was transported to Scotts Bluff County Detention Center just after 2:30pm on Friday to be booked. Eubanks states at 9pm Green was transported to Regional West Medical Center where he later died.

An autopsy was performed today and the attorney’s office is waiting for the toxicology report. The next step is to conduct a formal investigation, which is done every time someone dies while apprehended or in custody. Eubanks is allowed to assign up to three investigators with experience in homicides to run the report.

Within thirty days, there will be a grand jury summoned who will hear all the evidence involving the case. Eubanks states he has the ability to request more time after the thirty days if need be to retrieve all necessary evidence.
