SCOTTS BLUFF COUNTY, Neb. - (KNEP) - Scotts Bluff County Detention Center Director has been placed on administrative leave.

According to Scotts Bluff County Commissioner Chairman Ken Meyer, Joseph Gaul has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending an investigation.

The chairman declined to comment further on the ramifications of the investigation but said this decision was made unanimously by the board.

While the investigation continues, Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Mark Overman will take over as director on an interim basis. Sheriff Overman stated the County realized it had a problem and he and his office are happy to step in and help. He will add stability to a facility that is currently without a director and assistant director. Sheriff Overman will now split his time between the detention center and the sheriff's office which he adds is not uncommon for someone in his position.

Sheriff Overman added he is unaware of the details surrounding the investigation and would not comment further but said the investigation is ongoing and will run its course. No timetable has been set as to how long he will be involved on an interim basis.

NBC Nebraska will continue to monitor the situation and provide any updates on the investigation and what this means for the detention center.
