Just before 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Nebraska State Patrol said Interstate 80 is back open.

Late Tuesday, an 81-mile stretch of I-80 between York and Kearney was shut down.

Nebraska Department of Transportation said it's back open in both directions. Crews are out, working on clearing the snow and drifts. They say to give plows room so they can do their job.

Our Wednesday will offer much calmer conditions with temperatures staying on the cold side. Highs will peak in the upper 20s and lower 30s with partly cloudy skies and weaker winds.

Thanksgiving will offer more chances for winter weather starting early that morning. Chances for snow, sleet, and freezing rain will be possible specifically in the easternmost portions of our region. The main risk here will be slick roads, since our snowfall totals will stay below 3 inches for most.

Black Friday could see off and on chances for a rain/snow mix turning into chances for widespread rain during that afternoon. Some more chances for rain and snow will continue into the first half of the weekend, but things will calm down toward the end of the forecast.

Heading into next week we'll see temperatures rise back into the 40s and 50s with more sunshine.
