GERING, Neb. - (KNEP) - The Mixing Bowl Café becomes one of a number of businesses featured on the 2019 Nebraska Passport.
The Nebraska Tourism Commission released its list of 70 businesses and attractions throughout the state who will partake in the Passport program. The purpose is to help travelers find hidden gems, facilitate tourism and grow the economy.
This is the first year Jamie Meisner and her café will be featured and she is excited as well as a little nervous. She is hoping they have enough space to allow everyone to come in and sit down.
The café opened five years ago to serve coffee as well as German food that Meisner helped her grandmother make when she was younger.
It was the first time Meisner applied to be a part of the program and heard about it through a friend two years ago. She hopes the food and drinks she offers gives people a reason to stick around rather than grabbing their stamp and leaving.
Meisner knows this will be just another opportunity to showcase there is more to this side of the state.
The program saw a record 749 participants last year and will kick off on May 1st. Until then Meisner will continue to do what she loves which is cooking food for the community.
