Crete, NEB The Gering softball team fought one of the state's top teams to the very end but could not pull off one more upset to make it into the state tournament.

Crete would come from behind to eliminate Gering on Saturday two games to one.

Bulldogs came out of the gates strong getting a complete game one run pitching performance for Madeline Wiese as Gering earned a 6-1 win over the three seed Crete.

Kiana Island and Brylee Dean each had multiple hits and multiple RBI.

The win placed Gering one win away from a state tournament berth. However Crete quickly took the momentum in game two scoring four runs in the first inning and then nine in the third to pick up game two 13-0.

That would force a winner takes all game three between the two teams. Like in game two Crete came out of the gates strong scoring five runs in the first inning and five more in the second inning to take a 10-0 lead.

Cardinals would go on to get the game three win 11-0 to earn a berth into the Class B State Tournament.

Gering's strong season comes to an end with 21 wins on the year.
