SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - (KNEP) - A Scottsbluff High School sophomore received recognition this month for her positive attitude.

Adanijah Gonzales was named the Rising Star for the month of January after being nominated by her interpreter. The award is given out to a deaf and hard of hearing student who stands out as a positive role model to their peers and in their communities.

Gonzales takes time to connect with younger students and takes a leadership role during bus and van travel. Younger students look up to her and she has also created a sign language club to teach her peers how to sign.

Although she is just a sophomore, Gonzales is already looking at college and hoping to get into a school in Washington D.C. for criminal justice.

Her current interpreter Tiffany Stone loves working with Gonzales as teachers at the school say she brings laughter inside the halls all the time.
