Lincoln Children's Zoo expansion opens after two years

After more than two years of anticipation, the largest expansion to the Lincoln Children’s Zoo is officially open to the public.

The zoo broke ground on the $24 million project in Spring 2017, the ribbon was cut Friday morning.

The zoo has now doubled in size with an additional 10 acres. The new exhibits include giraffes, two tigers, spider monkeys, a splash pad and more.

Zoo officials announced additional attractions earlier this year, such as cheetahs, giant anteaters, a new cafe, an outdoor giraffe play experience and an event and concert area. These new areas will be open next year.
