Local teams have big day one at Class B State Tennis Tournament in Lincoln

Lincoln, NEB The Scottsbluff, Gering, and Alliance girls tennis teams had a very strong day one at the Nebraska High School State Tennis Tournament in Lincoln.

The Gering girls led the way sending two players into Friday's place rounds.

Thanks to her 3-0 day one Bobbie Claflin in number two singles just two wins away from a state title. She will face Lexington's Mallorie Buescher in the semi-finals tomorrow morning.

Teammate Zoee Smith finished 2-1 on day one in number one singles. She will play with a chance to finish as high as 5th tomorrow morning as well.

The Scottsbluff girls also picked up first round wins on the day. Freshman Megan Bewley earned her first career state win defeating Adams Central in number two singles. But her season came to an end falling to the top seed from Grand Island Central Catholic in round two.

Scottsbluff's number one doubles team of Brooke DeSha and Shelby Bewley picked up a first round win over Omaha Roncalli. Their season came to end with a second round loss to McCook.

Finally Alliance saw their number two doubles team of Diana Acosta and Taylor Manion finish 2-1 on day one. They will advance into tomorrow's place rounds with a chance to finish in the top five.
