GORDON, Neb. - (KNEP) - Nebraska Game and Parks announces the death of a mountain lion seen in Gordon a few nights ago.
According to Sam Wilson with the Game and Parks Commission, the cat was seen within city limits which gives them the authority to take down the mountain lion in order to maintain the safety of the community.
Wilson also states mountain lions have been prevalent more and more in the last decade with two of the three main areas the animal is recolonizing are in the panhandle.
This particular situation in Gordon was a 55-pound male approximately a year old.
Wilson adds with more people out during this time of the year, whether for other game or wildlife pictures, it’s not uncommon to have sightings.
Game and Parks Commission has scheduled a hunting season from January 1st to February 28th and have already given out 240 permits to those looking to hunt during that time period.
