SIOUX COUNTY, Neb. - (KNEP) - Multiple fire crews respond to a large grass fire just off Highway 29 in Sioux County Friday afternoon.
A Sioux County Sheriff deputy stated the call came in around 2 p.m. of a grass fire about 25 miles north of Mitchell. The cause is still under investigation but the sheriff believes it may have been due to a cigarette bud.
The fire began on the side of the road and traveled three miles east and into the pasture. Firefighters from Harrison, Hemingford, Crawford and Mitchell all responded with Gering sending a few crews as well.
As of 4:30 p.m. crews were refilling tanks on Highway 29 before heading back in to battle the flames. We will continue to update with more as it becomes available.
